Job Requirements
- availability to work onsite with a flexible schedule often including evenings, weekends and holidays
- ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- ability to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours including standing, walking, bending and squatting
- ability to use knives, hand tools and standard commercial kitchen equipment
- food handler's license
Job Qualifications
- 4+ years of cooking experience with 1+ year of management experience
- working knowledge of kitchen equipment, food production procedures and safety and sanitation regulations
- excellent communication skills and enjoyment of speaking in front of large groups
- in-depth knowledge of Italian cuisine and culture
- Italian language skills highly preferred
Job Duties
- teach a wide variety of demonstration and hands-on classes for private and public groups
- work and oversee breakfasts, lunches and dinners including 3-4 course menus, family-style menus, cocktail-style receptions and buffet-style receptions
- prepare, demonstrate and execute all menu items for La Scuola including savory and occasional sweet items
- supervise the production of food items for events in collaboration with back-of-the-house personnel
- manage prep cooks and line cooks who work events, train, provide feedback and ensure health and quality standards
- oversee kitchen mise-en-place of all stations and cleanliness of the La Scuola kitchen
- inform front-of-house personnel of menu changes, specials, shortages, allergies and dietary restrictions
- plan events and create menus with the Education & Events team, Executive Chef, front-of-house personnel and clients when required
- purchase or submit requisitions for food items, kitchen supplies and equipment
- perform other duties as required or assigned
