Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • minimum of 8 years leadership sales and event role experience
  • proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • strong organizational and management skills
  • excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  • ability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays
  • ability to multitask and manage multiple projects
  • compliance with attendance rules
  • ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
  • vision ability to adjust focus and see at close and distance
  • proactive customer service orientation
  • strong negotiation and sales skills
  • ability to work collaboratively within a team environment

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, communications, public relations, marketing, hospitality management or a museum-related field or 8 years of successful leadership sales and event experience
  • two to five years of successful sales and customer service experience
  • proficient in Microsoft Outlook for email and calendar management
  • proficient in Microsoft Word for document creation and editing
  • proficient in Microsoft Excel for basic worksheet creation and maintenance
  • effective management and organizational skills
  • outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to interface at all levels of an organization
  • prior experience developing plans, organizing work, and achieving results on schedule and budget
  • strong written and oral presentation and communication skills
  • proven self-starter capable of multitasking and networking

Job Duties

  • Hire, train and develop event staff
  • responsible for management of event staff to ensure quality operations and fiscal responsibilities
  • create and develop birthday party events
  • be open to flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
  • ensure event activities comply with Museum policies and local laws
  • manage the Museum's yearly fundraiser "Night at the Museum" with Senior Director
  • coordinate space reservations and event setup with Reservations, Catering and Operations
  • maintain high-quality communication between clients and Museum staff
  • foster repeat business through long-term client relationships
  • actively participate in industry organizations
  • utilize strong sales and negotiating skills
  • develop innovative event setups and décor
  • collaborate closely with catering department on event execution
  • direct, coordinate, and evaluate events
  • manage audio/visual and rental equipment sales as a profit center
  • liaise with outside vendors to ensure client satisfaction
  • enforce department policies and procedures
  • handle all necessary administrative duties of the department
  • anticipate departmental needs and forecast results
  • maintain monthly budget and visitor feedback reports
  • manage calendars including Museum events, catering, and birthday parties
  • proactively promote additional sales to meet or exceed budget
  • coordinate supervision and operational management of events with other Event Manager
  • promptly respond to guest communications within business day
  • address patron and staff concerns proactively
  • ensure highest quality standards for scheduled events
  • prepare and manage monthly forecasts and annual budgets
  • collect deposits and payments timely according to policies
  • comply with attendance rules
  • perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Operations and Events
