Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in event planning, programming and staff supervision in recreation
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License and driving record meeting City qualifications
  • Ability to work all assigned days including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to work in various environments including office, outdoor, and inclement weather
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Familiarity with event management, recreation registration and budgeting software

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in Recreation and Event Management, Hospitality Management, Hospitality, or Event Planning
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in recreation with event planning, programming and staff supervision
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License with acceptable driving record
  • Event Planning Specialist Certification (preferred)
  • ServeSafe Food Protection Manager Certification (preferred)
  • TAMS Certified - Techniques of Alcohol Management (preferred)
  • Farmer's Market Manager Certification (preferred)
  • Experience attending shared kitchen workshops, seminars and educational classes (preferred)

Job Duties

  • Oversees logistics of Farmer's Market including vendor recruitment, marketing, programming, staffing, entertainment, and food assistance coordination
  • Manages recruitment and retention of Farmer's Market vendors and maintains positive community relationships
  • Plans, organizes and executes community events and programs for Event Hub, Commercial Kitchen and Amphitheater
  • Develops and manages event budgets, financial records, invoicing and cash handling
  • Implements marketing strategies to build revenue and customer relationships
  • Maintains reservation and scheduling software
  • Manages event operations, staff, safety, and attendee satisfaction
  • Supervises, trains and schedules staff and volunteers
  • Coordinates rentals and ensures customer satisfaction
  • Handles client communication, inquiries and complaints
  • Ensures compliance with City Event Hub policies
  • Explores funding opportunities through grants and sponsorships
  • Coordinates with other city departments
  • Maintains food safety and sanitation standards
  • Participates in meetings and professional development
  • Troubleshoots equipment and facility issues
  • Conducts post-event evaluations and reporting
  • Performs other assigned duties
