Job Description
Michaels is a renowned leading creative destination in North America, dedicated to inspiring customers and fostering creativity across communities. With a legacy spanning over 50 years, Michaels operates more than 1,290 stores across 49 states and Canada, in addition to its online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company’s commitment to creativity, inclusivity, and community engagement makes it a top choice for individuals seeking a meaningful career in retail, particularly within the arts and crafts sector. Michaels also owns Artistree, a specialized manufacturer of custom framing merchandise, and MakerPlace by Michaels, a marketplace for handmade goods, further broadening its offerings and creative reach.
The role at hand is based in a Michaels store located in Pearland, TX, where the successful candidate will take on the exciting responsibility of planning, coordinating, and facilitating events, including children’s birthday parties and various craft classes. This position is crucial in delivering a fun, stress-free, and engaging experience for guests of all ages, ranging from young children to seniors. The Event Coordinator will not only orchestrate event logistics but will also be a friendly face helping customers shop and find the perfect products for their creative projects. Ensuring efficient and friendly checkout experiences, handling operational duties such as truck unloading, merchandising, and maintaining store recovery standards are also essential aspects of this role.
In this dynamic position, the Event Coordinator will manage multiple events concurrently, demonstrate crafts, facilitate party add-ons like balloons and goody bags, and maintain clear communication with clients and store teams. Administrative tasks including email correspondence, phone calls, and paperwork will be part of day-to-day operations. Flexibility and problem-solving skills will be necessary to adapt and create contingency plans to address client needs and feedback, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction for every scheduled event.
Customer experience is at the core of this role, with the coordinator actively engaging with clients, promoting the Rewards program, handling online order processes such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), and supporting store operational tasks. The role also demands adherence to company safety and cleanliness standards, including set up and tear down of event spaces. Cross-training in custom framing sales and production adds an extra dimension of expertise and versatility to the position.
Michaels values team members who embody enthusiasm, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage stress effectively while maintaining positive interactions with customers and coworkers. Experience working with children and coordinating children’s events is especially important, alongside excellent communication and organizational skills. The physical demands include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, lifting heavy boxes, and using ladders when necessary. The public retail environment is mostly climate controlled, with some exceptions in stock rooms and outdoor areas.
Michaels fosters an inclusive, supportive workplace and offers reasonable accommodations to enable all team members to perform their jobs fully. This role provides opportunities for personal and professional growth in a vibrant retail environment that celebrates creativity and community connection. Join Michaels and be part of a team committed to fueling the joy of creativity and making every customer interaction memorable and meaningful.
