Job Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma
  • valid Class B Florida Driver's License with tanker endorsement
  • prior experience preferred for trainee position
  • loader, water truck, and power screen certification required for Equipment Operator I
  • additional certifications for Equipment Operator II including Gradall, dozer, street sweeper, and boom mower
  • ability to pass DOT physical and drug screening
  • capacity to perform physical labor required
  • availability to work various shifts including emergencies
  • maintenance of a clean driving record

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma
  • prior experience as an equipment operator or heavy equipment operator preferred for trainee position
  • possession of a valid Class B Florida Driver's License with tanker endorsement
  • loader, water truck, power screen, Gradall, dozer, street sweeper, and boom mower certifications as required for higher-level positions
  • knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to safety and equipment operation
  • skills in cleaning and maintaining medium and heavy construction equipment
  • ability to make minor repairs to equipment
  • ability to maintain daily equipment logs
  • ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Job Duties

  • Keep the mission, vision, and values of the City at the forefront of decision making and action
  • build strategic and collaborative relationships
  • provide excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives
  • maintain high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations
  • operate various medium and heavy equipment including dump trucks, skid steer loaders, water trucks, power screens, tack trucks, and paving equipment
  • perform skilled and semi-skilled physical labor involving storm water drainage swales, rights-of-way, greenbelts, and roadway maintenance
  • perform concrete finishing and landscape maintenance tasks
  • haul materials to and from job sites
  • perform preventative maintenance on equipment
  • adhere to safety standards and operational procedures
  • work under the direction of supervisors
  • respond to emergency work as required
  • maintain daily logs of equipment use
  • perform minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
  • ensure punctual and regular attendance
  • carry out other duties as assigned
