Job Requirements

  • Completion of twelfth grade or equivalent
  • Two years experience in operating refuse or heavy equipment
  • Possession of a class B commercial driver’s license
  • Ability to maintain vehicle insurability
  • Willingness to work 10-hour shifts Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with occasional Wednesdays
  • Ability to perform physical labor including lifting up to 80 pounds
  • Willingness to work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, DOT physical, physical abilities test, background and driving record checks
  • Compliance with City of Fayetteville safety and communication procedures

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of experience operating refuse equipment or heavy construction and maintenance equipment in related fields
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
  • Possession of a class B CDL and ability to maintain insurability
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Knowledge of safety standards and procedures in equipment operation
  • Experience working in a municipal environment preferred

Job Duties

  • Operate medium and heavy power-driven equipment including refuse trucks, yard waste trucks, excavators, road graders, and knuckle boom trucks
  • Assist with the collection of municipal solid waste, recycling materials, and debris removal
  • Perform maintenance tasks on streets, rights-of-way, parks, cemeteries, horticulture, and other city properties
  • Act as a lead worker on crews and coordinate activities effectively
  • Participate in the repair and maintenance of city-owned properties including excavation, grading, loading, and resurfacing
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and perform basic preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Respond to emergencies and weather events using snow removal and other equipment
