Job Requirements
- Completion of twelfth grade or equivalent
- Two years experience in operating refuse or heavy equipment
- Possession of a class B commercial driver’s license
- Ability to maintain vehicle insurability
- Willingness to work 10-hour shifts Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with occasional Wednesdays
- Ability to perform physical labor including lifting up to 80 pounds
- Willingness to work outdoors in inclement weather
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, DOT physical, physical abilities test, background and driving record checks
- Compliance with City of Fayetteville safety and communication procedures
Job Qualifications
- Two years of experience operating refuse equipment or heavy construction and maintenance equipment in related fields
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
- Possession of a class B CDL and ability to maintain insurability
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions
- Knowledge of safety standards and procedures in equipment operation
- Experience working in a municipal environment preferred
Job Duties
- Operate medium and heavy power-driven equipment including refuse trucks, yard waste trucks, excavators, road graders, and knuckle boom trucks
- Assist with the collection of municipal solid waste, recycling materials, and debris removal
- Perform maintenance tasks on streets, rights-of-way, parks, cemeteries, horticulture, and other city properties
- Act as a lead worker on crews and coordinate activities effectively
- Participate in the repair and maintenance of city-owned properties including excavation, grading, loading, and resurfacing
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and perform basic preventative maintenance on equipment
- Respond to emergencies and weather events using snow removal and other equipment
