Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • three years of related experience in road construction or maintenance and equipment operation
  • valid state driver’s license with a good driving history
  • preferred CDL with endorsements
  • physical ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds
  • ability to work in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, dust, and vibration
  • ability to follow safety protocols and procedures
  • reliable attendance
  • ability to communicate effectively
  • capacity for independent and team work

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • three years of experience in road construction or maintenance with heavy and light equipment operation
  • valid state driver's license with a good driving history
  • knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance
  • familiarity with TMUTCD traffic control procedures
  • ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • skills in troubleshooting equipment problems
  • effective communication and teamwork abilities
  • capability to maintain accurate records
  • ability to work independently and efficiently

Job Duties

  • Drive and operate various heavy equipment including tractors, skid loaders, rollers, excavators, backhoes, and motor graders
  • assist or oversee flaggers for traffic monitoring during road repairs
  • set out signs and cones to divert traffic according to TMUTCD standards
  • maintain records of equipment mileage, servicing, and use
  • estimate and recommend project materials
  • follow blueprints for compliance on road standards
  • maintain accurate daily records of team performance and materials used
  • perform general construction and maintenance tasks such as excavation and brush cutting
  • conduct pre- and post-inspections of vehicles and equipment
  • operate hand tools for various site tasks
  • direct traffic at construction sites
  • transport materials using various trucks
  • assist in road base preparation and clearing drainage ditches
  • demonstrate equipment operation techniques to other operators
  • assist with pothole repairs and road shoulder reconstruction
  • perform other assigned duties
