Job Requirements

  • Ability to operate light construction and maintenance equipment
  • Ability to perform physical work outdoors under varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally more
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, and crouch for prolonged periods
  • Valid driver’s license and maintain insurability
  • Willingness to comply with pre-employment screening processes including drug screening, background, and driving history checks

Job Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
  • Six months of experience operating light construction and maintenance equipment in parks, cemeteries, horticulture environments, street repair/maintenance, transit operations, or related fields
  • Valid driver’s license with maintained insurability
  • Preferred safety training certifications such as Defensive Driving, Biohazard course completion, Flagger certification, and Pesticide Applicator license

Job Duties

  • Operate light construction power-driven equipment such as tractors, riding mowers, push-mowers, small dump trucks, and solid waste collection vehicles in support of maintenance, solid waste, and construction operations
  • Participate in the repair and maintenance of city-owned properties including parks, cemeteries, streets, alleyways, bus shelters, benches, solar lights, bus stop signs, and drainage systems
  • Perform grounds maintenance and minor construction tasks such as mowing, clearing fence lines, seeding, weeding, truck driving, and minor repairs
  • Identify equipment needs for projects, transport and deliver equipment to and from job sites, inspect, maintain, and secure equipment
  • Maintain records and logs of work performed and perform basic preventive maintenance on light equipment
  • Transport construction equipment and materials as needed
  • Install street barricades and cones, direct and control traffic around work sites
  • Perform routine repairs to plumbing, electrical, and mechanical fixtures and equipment
