Job Requirements

  • Six months of experience operating light construction and maintenance equipment
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
  • Possession of a valid driver's license
  • Ability to maintain vehicle insurability
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Capability to perform physical activities including walking, standing, bending, crouching for prolonged periods
  • Willingness to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and driving history check
  • Completion of a detailed 10-year employment and education history on application

Job Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
  • Six months of experience operating light construction and maintenance equipment in parks, cemeteries, horticulture environments, street repair or maintenance, transit operations or related fields
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability
  • Preferred safety course completion
  • Defensive driving course
  • Flagger certification
  • Biohazard course completion
  • Pesticide applicator license

Job Duties

  • Operate light construction power-driven equipment such as tractors, riding mowers, push-mowers, small dump trucks, and solid waste collection vehicles
  • Participate in repair and maintenance of city-owned properties including parks, cemeteries, streets, bus shelters, and drainage systems
  • Perform grounds maintenance tasks including mowing, clearing fence lines, seeding, weeding, and minor repairs
  • Identify equipment needs for assigned projects and transport, inspect, maintain, and secure equipment
  • Maintain records and logs of work performed and conduct basic preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Transport construction equipment and materials as required
  • Install street barricades and cones, and direct traffic around work sites
  • Perform routine repairs to plumbing, electrical, and mechanical fixtures and equipment
