Job Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
  • Six months of experience operating light construction and maintenance equipment
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability
  • Ability to operate various types of light construction and maintenance equipment
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and instructions
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as mowing, loading, and minor repairs

Job Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
  • Six months of experience operating light construction and maintenance equipment in parks, horticulture, cemetery maintenance, street repair, transit operations or related field
  • Ability to maintain insurability and possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of safety practices and equipment maintenance
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Job Duties

  • Operate light construction power-driven equipment, such as tractors, riding mowers, push-mowers, small dump trucks, solid waste collection vehicles and other equipment in support of maintenance and construction operations
  • Participate in the repair and maintenance of city owned properties including parks, cemeteries, city streets, roads, alleys, bus shelters, benches, solar lights, bus stop signs and drainage systems
  • Perform grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, clearing fence lines, seeding, weeding and minor repairs
  • Identify equipment needs for projects and transport equipment to and from sites
  • Maintain and inspect equipment, perform basic preventive maintenance and secure equipment after use
  • Install street barricades and cones and direct traffic around work sites
  • Perform routine repairs to plumbing, electrical, and mechanical fixtures and equipment
