Job Description
Polk County Conservation Board, located in Granger, Iowa, is a steward of natural resources and a provider of outdoor programs, parks, and recreational facilities for the community. The Board operates several recreational venues including the Jester Park Equestrian Center, which is a public equine facility offering diverse equine-related programs and services to the public. Job Requirements
- enrollment at a post-secondary school in coursework relevant to the duties of the unit to which assigned
- ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- ability to apply knowledge gained through formal education to situations
- ability to operate equipment and technology as needed
- a criminal background check is required
- a valid State of Iowa driver's license is required
Job Qualifications
- enrolled in a post-secondary school with coursework relevant to the assigned unit
- basic knowledge of the concepts of the assigned field
- ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- ability to apply knowledge gained through formal education to work situations
- ability to operate equipment, machinery, computer/software, and office equipment as needed
Job Duties
- assists in performing duties as assigned in accordance with the student's educational program and unit needs
- performs routine work pertinent to the assigned subject area such as administration, natural resources, environmental education, community outreach, parks advocacy, parks planning, construction and maintenance, equestrian, and leisure services
- assists with data entry, meeting attendance and documentation, correspondence development, operating office equipment and computer software
- creates content for websites, social media, and print materials
- supports special event assistance
- participates in park maintenance and visitor services
- assists with GIS data entry and mapping, design development, field visits, site condition assessments, written reports, and presentations
- performs equine feeding and grooming, facility maintenance, and supports public programming
- engages in day-to-day contact with venue/event participants, event planning, marketing, communications, and hospitality
- performs related duties as assigned
