Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • suitability for federal employment determined by background investigation
  • selective service registration required for males born after December 31, 1959
  • completion of an online onboarding process including acceptable identification documentation
  • Real ID compliance
  • willingness to serve a 1-year probationary period
  • ability to complete pre-employment physical examination
  • availability to work assigned shifts including every third weekend and holiday
  • physical ability to perform continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, and operation of cleaning equipment
  • commitment to vaccination requirements as per Department of Veterans Affairs policies
  • ability to submit a complete application package including resume and required documents by the closing date

Job Qualifications

  • Evidence of training or experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability to perform housekeeping and environmental services duties
  • experience in custodial or janitorial work preferred
  • ability to operate powered cleaning equipment
  • ability to perform physical activities including lifting, stooping, and walking for extended periods
  • attention to detail and visual acuity to identify dirt and maintain cleanliness
  • capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
  • understanding of safety standards and protocols
  • compliance with federal employment suitability standards

Job Duties

  • Performing janitorial and custodial services including textile distribution and inventory
  • sanitizing and disinfecting patient wards, offices, and restrooms
  • waste removal and disposal
  • cleaning blinds, windows, walls, and ceilings
  • dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures
  • discharging cleaning duties such as sweeping, scrubbing, extracting and polishing floors and applying floor finishes
  • carrying out routine housekeeping duties including vacuuming carpets and upholstered furniture
  • installing light bulbs and replacing curtains
  • moving furniture as necessary
  • operating heavy powered cleaning equipment
  • working independently with minimal supervision
