Job Description
J. D. McCarty Center is a dedicated pediatric rehabilitation hospital serving children from birth to 21 years of age who have various disabilities. This unique facility operates a 36-bed hospital where patients are admitted for a comprehensive 30-day evaluation. During this period, patients are assigned a multidisciplinary treatment team comprised of nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. Job Requirements
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of various cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work
- Knowledge of proper procedures for disposing of waste including medically contaminated sharps and dressings
- Knowledge of chemical product safety
- Skill to operate custodial equipment
- Six months experience in building or institutional custodial work or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to lift 40 pounds

Job Duties
- Clean and disinfect desks and surrounding furnishings in the school as needed
- Follow guidelines for floor care and maintenance
- Sweep and mop all floors in the school building daily
- Set up and take down tables and chairs for the school lunch program, clean and disinfect these areas
- Perform detailed cleaning of restrooms including walls, baseboards, and shower curtains
- Clean interior walls and windows weekly
- Dust all furniture and vertical fixtures twice weekly
- Clean vents weekly
- Sweep outside porch areas as needed
- Inspect grounds for debris and trash, maintain outdoor areas neat and tidy
- Empty trash and regulated waste containers daily
- Disinfect trash receptacles daily
- Supply restrooms and work areas with soap and paper goods
- Check supplies inventory weekly and request replenishment
- Report excessive waste or discrepancies
- Participate in agency-required education and departmental meetings
- Use personal protective equipment and practice safe work methods
- Maintain and care for cleaning equipment
- Report defective or unsafe equipment
- Assist with emergency evacuations and maintain clear evacuation routes
