Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and understand safety data sheets and chemical usage instructions
  • Physical ability to perform cleaning duties including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
  • For Crisis Response Center assignments, ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests
  • Willingness to adhere to hospital policies and safety standards

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team without continuous supervision
  • Ability to interpret and respond to verbal and written instructions
  • Effective communication skills by phone and verbally
  • Ability to read and understand material safety data sheets and instructions for mixing and use of cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to fill out chemical identification stickers
  • Previous related experience and familiarity with environmental services equipment and cleaning techniques preferred
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Performs a variety of assigned cleaning tasks including dusting, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, vacuuming and polishing according to departmental policy and procedures
  • Empties hampers and transports of soiled linen
  • Empties trash containers and removes all trash including medical waste and sharps
  • Inventories, restocks and replenishes supplies such as toilet tissue, paper towels, and hand soap in assigned areas
  • Maintains cleanliness of departmental equipment and notifies appropriate personnel for repairs
  • Performs special projects such as window washing, wall washing, and removing heavily soiled items
  • Responds to questions and requests from patients, staff and visitors and meets customer service satisfaction goals
