Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in environmental services or cleaning preferred
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Effective communication skills
  • Must be able to read and understand safety data sheets
  • Ability to fill out chemical identification stickers
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and standing for extended periods
  • Willingness to adhere to hospital policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • Previous related experience and familiarity with environmental services equipment and cleaning techniques is preferred
  • Additional related education and or experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team without continuous supervision
  • Effective communication skills including verbal and phone communication
  • Ability to interpret and respond to verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to read and understand material safety data sheets and instructions for cleaning chemicals

Job Duties

  • Performs a variety of assigned cleaning tasks including dusting, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, vacuuming and polishing according to departmental policy and procedures
  • Empties hampers and transports of soiled linen
  • Empties trash containers and removes all trash including medical waste containers and sharps
  • Inventories, restocks and replenishes supplies such as toilet tissue, paper towels, hand soap, etc.
  • Maintains cleanliness of departmental equipment and notifies appropriate personnel as repairs become necessary
  • May perform special projects such as window washing, wall washing, removing heavily soiled items or furnishings
  • Responds to questions and requests from patients, staff and visitors and meets or exceeds goals for customer service satisfaction
