Job Requirements

  • Equivalent to two years of high school preferred
  • Up to three months to become proficient in all aspects of the position
  • Requires ability to read and follow instructions
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Physical ability to perform cleaning duties
  • Willingness to wear protective clothing when required
  • Commitment to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning agents and techniques
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic understanding of safety and hygiene protocols in a hospital setting

Job Duties

  • Coordinates with the nursing staff and supervisor to clean occupied rooms first, checks empty rooms, attends to emergency cleaning for spills
  • Uses appropriate cleaning agents and techniques in washing and cleaning patient rooms daily, bucket cleans patient rooms, damp mops or vacuums floors, dusts furniture, ledges and bed table, removes debris, empties, washes and relines wastebaskets, spot washes walls and windows
  • Uses appropriate cleaning agents and techniques in washing and cleaning restrooms, washes basins, commodes, tubs and showers, checks and cleans mirrors, soap dishes, water pipes and exterior surfaces, dusts ledges, damp mops floors and spot washes walls, empties wastebaskets and relines, refills toilet tissue, paper towels and soap dispensers
  • Performs periodic detail cleaning of IV poles, blood pressure cuff leads, suction bottles, closets inside and out, curtains and blinds
  • Dry mops and damp mops corridors, spot washes corridor and elevator landings
  • Maintains all carpets by vacuuming, extracting, bonnet cleaning and spot cleaning as needed
  • Hangs curtains if needed and checks the condition of own equipment, cleans equipment upon return, reports any maintenance or repairs needed immediately
  • Continuously displays a positive attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program, greets patients by name, assists patients and visitors in need, acknowledges family members and friends, reports patient needs and requests to nursing staff, engages in appropriate conversation without violating HIPPA
  • Uses appropriate cleaning agents and techniques in washing and cleaning precaution (isolation) patient rooms wearing proper protective clothing during the process
  • Demonstrates knowledge of mixing cleaning agents and proper use of each agent
