Job Requirements

  • Equivalent to two years of high school preferred
  • up to three months to become proficient in all aspects of the position
  • requires ability to read and follow instructions
  • available to work evening shifts from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm
  • work every weekend and every other holiday
  • willingness to work in a Sunday to Saturday operation

  • Equivalent to two years of high school preferred
  • ability to read and follow instructions
  • effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients and staff
  • basic knowledge of cleaning agents and safety procedures
  • ability to operate cleaning equipment safely
  • attention to detail and thoroughness in cleaning tasks
  • physical ability to perform manual cleaning duties

Job Duties

  • Coordinate with nursing staff and supervisor to clean occupied rooms first, check empty rooms, attend to emergency cleaning for spills
  • use appropriate cleaning agents and techniques in washing and cleaning patient rooms daily, including bucket cleaning, damp mopping or vacuuming floors, dusting furniture, ledges and bed tables, and removing debris
  • empty, wash and reline wastebaskets
  • spot wash walls and windows including telephones, TV and controls, doors
  • use appropriate cleaning agents and techniques in washing and cleaning restrooms, including basins, commodes, tubs, showers, mirrors, soap dishes, water pipes and exterior surfaces
  • dust ledges, damp mop floors and spot wash walls
  • empty wastebaskets and reline
  • refill toilet tissue, paper towels and soap dispensers
  • perform periodic detail cleaning of I.V. poles, blood pressure cuff leads, suction bottles, closets inside and out, curtains and blinds
  • dry mop and damp mop corridors
  • spot wash corridor and elevator landings
  • maintain all carpets by vacuuming, extracting, bonnet cleaning, and spot cleaning on an as-needed basis
  • hang curtains if needed and check condition of own equipment, clean equipment upon return, report any maintenance or repairs immediately
  • display a can-do attitude and contribute to overall customer service by greeting patients by name upon entering and exiting rooms, ceasing cleaning and assisting patients or visitors who need help, acknowledging patient visitors, reporting patient needs to nursing staff, and engaging in appropriate conversation without violating HIPAA
  • use appropriate cleaning agents in washing and cleaning isolation patient rooms wearing proper protective clothing
  • knowledge of mixing cleaning agents and proper use of each agent
