Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Current California driver’s license within six months of hire or transfer (evening shift only)
- Ability to push and pull at least 750 lbs
- Ability to lift and move at least 75 lbs
- Ability to understand proper floor care
- Ability to understand trash collection and proper disposal
- Ability to understand linen collection and distribution
- Ability to understand proper lifting and moving of heavy objects
- Ability to work with and properly handle cleaning solutions and chemicals
- Ability to complete all on-the-job training and demonstrate knowledge of health and sanitation standards
- Minimum of one year previous housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred
- Ability to read and understand written instructions and labels in English
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, healthcare staff and environmental service employees
- Experience with surgical services floor care (stripping, waxing, buffing) preferred for surgical positions
- Experience with floor scrubber and buffing equipment preferred for surgical positions
- Knowledge of cleaning agents and operating room cleaning standards preferred for surgical positions
Job Qualifications
- Ability to push and pull a minimum of 750 lbs
- Ability to lift and move a minimum of 75 lbs
- Understanding of proper floor care procedures
- Knowledge of trash collection and disposal methods
- Knowledge of linen collection and distribution
- Proper lifting and moving techniques for heavy objects
- Experience handling cleaning solutions and chemicals safely
- Completion of on-the-job training for cleaning equipment usage
- Minimum of one year housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred
- Ability to read and understand written instructions and labels in English
- Effective communication with supervisors, healthcare staff, and environmental services employees
- Experience with stripping, waxing, buffing surgery/operating room floors and knowledge of AORN standards (Surgical Services only)
- Experience with floor scrubber and buffing equipment (Surgical Services only)
- Knowledge of cleaning agents and soil removal in operating rooms (Surgical Services only)
Job Duties
- Collect bio waste and trash throughout the facility
- Dispose of waste in proper receptacles
- Collect and distribute linen
- Maintain and clean floors following organizational standards and schedule
- Move and relocate patient beds
- Move furniture, boxes, desks, supplies, and other equipment as assigned
- Clean and maintain assigned areas according to hospital standards
- Maintain a safe environment including proper use of wet floor signs
- Use appropriate protective equipment and follow infection control protocols
- Understand disaster roles and responsibilities
- Clean discharge and occupied rooms per training checklist
- Maintain professional and courteous customer service
- Keep current with hospital requirements such as TB tests, fit testing, and training
