Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • six months demonstrated customer service related work experience required
  • successful completion of Environmental Services Department training program
  • ability to read instructional materials and labels
  • ability to lift 30 to 40 pounds repeatedly
  • ability to bend frequently
  • ability to push and pull work carts
  • ability to stand throughout shift
  • knowledge of proper body mechanics
  • excellent communication skills
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • detail oriented.

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Follows department procedures to ensure a safe environment
  • sets up equipment and supplies ready for use
  • corrects observed discrepancies immediately
  • completes required housekeeping assignments as scheduled
  • reports uncompleted assignments to supervisor prior to end of shift
  • reports discrepancies such as stained curtains, broken fixtures, or graffiti
  • ensures all chemical containers are properly labeled
  • returns all mops, rags, and dusters at end of shift
  • maintains a clean and orderly porter closet
  • performs housekeeping tasks to ensure sanitary condition of all areas
  • keeps ceiling and wall vents free of dust
  • cleans furniture, doors, walls, and horizontal surfaces
  • keeps all interior windows clear of smudges and tape marks
  • maintains bathrooms by properly cleaning fixtures, walls, floors, sinks, and commodes
  • checks and refills dispensers daily
  • collects and disposes sharps containers properly
  • ensures trash receptacles are cleaned regularly
  • cleans mattresses and bed frames on patient discharge
  • cleans all equipment in room and readies room for next admission
  • maintains floors through dust mopping, damp mopping, or vacuuming
  • inspects own work to ensure completion
  • performs unit-specific tasks
  • collects recycling waste and transports to storage facilities
  • assists in breaking down cardboard boxes
  • removes medical waste and sharps containers and transports to holding room
  • ensures confidential paper containers are locked after removal
  • handles and disposes medical waste safely
  • ensures trash and linen chute doors are closed and latched
  • ties trash and linen bags and puts them in appropriate chutes
  • responds promptly to spill clean-ups and safety issues
  • disposes all materials used for spill clean-ups properly
  • relines linen hampers and trash cans with appropriate bags
  • maintains bed management system for room availability
  • achieves patient room turnaround within standard time
  • anticipates discharges to plan work schedule
  • maintains accurate bed availability data in IVR system
  • operates cleaning equipment and lifts up to 40 pounds as required
  • uses proper body mechanics consistently
  • completes all duties in a timely and accurate manner
  • supports patient care team goals.
