Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • minimum six months of customer service-related work experience
  • successful completion of training program provided by Environmental Services
  • ability to read, write, and perform basic math
  • ability to lift 30 to 40 pounds repeatedly
  • must be able to push, pull, bend, and stand for entire shift
  • ability to follow all departmental and hospital policies and procedures
  • excellent communication and customer service skills
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • able to respond promptly to safety issues
  • adherence to safety and infection control protocols
  • completion of all assigned duties accurately and timely.

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Follows department procedures to ensure a safe environment
  • sets up equipment and prepares supplies for use
  • corrects observed discrepancies immediately such as spills and overflowing trash or linen
  • completes required housekeeping assignments as scheduled and according to procedure
  • reports uncompleted assignments and all discrepancies to supervisor
  • ensures proper labeling and solution of chemical containers
  • maintains orderly porter closet and returns cleaning tools after use
  • performs housekeeping tasks including dusting ceiling and wall vents, cleaning furniture, doors, walls, windows, and bathrooms
  • checks and refills dispensers for paper towels, toilet paper, and soap
  • collects and disposes sharps containers appropriately
  • cleans mattresses and bed frames on patient discharge and prepares rooms for new admissions
  • maintains floors by dust mopping, damp mopping, or vacuuming with no buildup
  • performs unit specific tasks
  • collects and transports recycling and medical waste to appropriate storage areas
  • breaks down cardboard boxes and locks confidential paper containers
  • follows safe handling and disposal protocols for contaminated items including medical waste
  • ensures trash and linen chute doors are closed and bags are tied securely
  • responds immediately to spill clean-ups and disposes of materials used
  • relines linen hampers and trash cans with appropriate bags
  • maintains bed management system to support room availability
  • works to achieve patient room turnaround within standard times
  • anticipates discharges to plan schedule
  • maintains accurate bed availability data in the system
  • demonstrates ability to read, write, and perform basic math
  • coordinates diverse responsibilities as part of the patient care team
  • responsible for following all hospital policies and procedures
  • completes duties timely and accurately
  • operates cleaning equipment and lifts up to 40 pounds
  • uses proper body mechanics consistently
  • able to respond quickly to safety-related issues.
