Job Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a safety professional
- Valid driver's license
Job Qualifications
- Effective interpersonal communication skills across various organizational levels and with external agencies
- Ability to write reports and correspondence with minimal supervision
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while adhering to deadlines
- Strong customer service orientation
- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other applicable health and safety standards
- Professional safety certification through a nationally recognized safety organization such as the National Safety Council or a college degree in Safety Management
- Successful completion of 40-hour OSHA compliance course
Job Duties
- Provide technical expertise and consultation to business unit leadership to promote and implement safety-related training programs that foster proactive safety behaviors
- Ensure business unit loss prevention programs comply with applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations governing the solid waste industry
- Monitor business unit implementation of safety and loss prevention programs including Focus 6 programs and take corrective actions when performance is below target
- Ensure ongoing compliance with OSHA safety regulations across assigned divisions and business units
- Ensure compliance with Federal and State Department of Transportation regulations and maintain necessary recordkeeping
- Develop and support training materials and lead monthly employee safety meetings to reinforce organizational safety values
- Manage return to duty programs in partnership with HR and division management to minimize time away due to work-related injuries
- Participate in investigations of serious and minor accidents and injuries and support OSHA and DOT compliance inspections and audits
- Perform other related job duties as assigned
