Job Requirements
- Must be able to read, understand and carry out written guidelines, procedures and other material
- must be able to interpret and follow labeled direction associated with use of cleaning products and other items
- must be able to comprehend and carry out verbal and written instructions and requests in a manner to accomplish tasks appropriately and timely
- must understand and use computer operations for timekeeping, training, and information updates
- no minimum education required
- no prior work experience required
- no certifications or licensure required.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
- ability to read, understand and carry out written guidelines, procedures and instructions
- ability to interpret and follow labeled directions for cleaning products
- competency in verbal and written communication
- basic computer literacy for managing work schedules, training, and personal information
- competence in safe work practices and use of Safety Data Sheets
- ability to interact with diverse populations including non-English speakers and special needs patients
- attendance reliability and punctuality
- willingness to attend ongoing training and education programs
- basic knowledge of waste segregation and hazardous waste protocols.
Job Duties
- Maintain optimistic, professional, career-oriented demeanor
- follow hospital service expectations policy
- exemplify excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, physicians and other staff
- serve as a positive role model for others
- perform full range cleaning tasks including high and low dusting, wall washing, fixture cleaning, dust and damp mopping of floors, vacuuming, spot cleaning carpets according to departmental procedures
- select, measure and mix various cleaning solutions and chemicals using automatic dispensing systems
- assemble materials, supplies and equipment needed
- return, clean and properly store all items
- service dispensers with paper and soap products
- remove, transport and dispose of solid waste, sharps, regulated medical waste and pharmaceutical drug waste as per protocol
- exercise safe work habits to protect self and others
- handle, monitor and safeguard communication devices
- observe area conditions and submit work orders when needed
- maintain positive attendance record
- clock in and out consistently
- demonstrate knowledge of personal role in disaster, safety, equipment care and use of Safety Data Sheets
- perform cleaning duties in all hospital areas including Surgery, Patient Units, Emergency Department, Clinical Areas, Administrative Areas and Physician Practices
- demonstrate competence in interacting with diverse population including non-English speakers and individuals with special needs
- adjust cleaning approach appropriately for all age groups and special cases
- attend in-service education programs
- perform special tasks such as patient room care, respond to STAT bed cleaning needs, hard floor and carpet care projects, upholstery cleaning
- participate in movement and arrangement of furniture for events
- receive, process and distribute cleaning and specialty supplies
- operate basic laundry equipment and maintain cleanliness of work areas
- ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste and pharmaceuticals
- perform any other assigned duties.
