Job Requirements
- No formal education required
- Typically requires 3 years of experience in environmental services
- Ability to operate various cleaning equipment including machine scrubbers, carpet cleaners, waste compactors, and balers
- Ability to follow and understand oral and written instructions
- Ability to work alone and understand the physical layout of facilities
- Ability to perform tasks without disrupting hospital operations
- Ability to prioritize work and follow policies and procedures
- Basic computer skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to 5 feet
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs at waist height
- Must be able to push/pull up to 50 lbs with assistance
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs, reach above shoulders, and crawl
- Must be able to shovel and spread salt or sand outdoors
- Must be able to walk or stand for most of the shift
- Must be able to wear protective clothing and handle infectious waste safely
- Must be able to operate power-cleaning equipment and ladders up to 20 feet
- Must be able to operate telephones, zone phones, and pagers

Job Duties
- Acts as a resource to employees and students including training and providing daily work direction
- Assigns, monitors, and reviews work progress and accuracy
- Assists with human resource responsibilities such as interviewing, staff development, and resolving employee concerns
- Cleans furniture, carpets, floors, and maintains floor surfaces using various cleaning equipment
- Uses chemicals and cleaning products safely and cost-effectively
- Sets up rooms for meetings and manages audio visual equipment
- Cleans patient care areas, restrooms, conference rooms, public and private spaces
- Gathers and disposes of recyclables, trash, and medical waste following infection control guidelines
- Sorts, stocks, and delivers linens and maintains inventory of supplies
- Reports mechanical failures or unsafe conditions to supervisors
