Job Requirements
- Completion of a two-year degree in interpretation, education, hospitality, tourism, experience design, non-profit management, or related field is preferred
- minimum two years of experience in public engagement, guest experience, interpretation, education, or program development including supervisory experience
- experience working in a high-volume attraction such as a zoo, aquarium, museum, or science center is preferred
- ability to lead and inspire large-scale guest engagement strategies
- proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, scheduling, and incident reporting platforms
- ability to collaborate across departments and manage multiple priorities
- strong written and oral communication skills
- strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- ability to adapt to a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
- ability to work independently and as part of a team

Job Qualifications

- experience in high-volume attractions such as zoos, aquariums, museums, or science centers preferred
- ability to lead guest engagement strategies combining live interpretation, entertainment, storytelling, and immersive experiences
- expertise managing diverse public programs that enhance guest satisfaction and support revenue goals
- proven leadership and inspiration of multidisciplinary teams
- proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, scheduling, and incident reporting platforms
- collaboration, organizational, written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail
- adaptability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- superior negotiation skills and diplomacy
- recognized as a developer, coach, and mentor
- certification or training from the National Association for Interpretation preferred
- IBCCES or sensory-inclusive experience certification preferred
Job Duties
- Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and professional development for part-time staff
- partner with managers to lead a department focused on cross-program support and integrated guest experiences
- lead hiring, onboarding, training, and supervision of part-time and seasonal staff
- oversee onboarding, training, and coaching of Ambassador Guest Experience volunteers
- create and deliver skills-based training to inspire curiosity and empathy for wildlife
- provide ongoing coaching and feedback to improve interpretive and public speaking skills
- support zoo-wide professional development initiatives
- supervise 20-50 part-time staff members
- track hours and manage payroll responsibilities
- collaborate with Human Resources on staff leadership
- manage escalated staff issues and documentation
- foster a culture of trust, joy, and collaboration
- propose and manage annual department budget
- oversee budgets and expenditures for engagement programs
- identify process improvements for efficiency and sustainability
- write and contribute to grant proposals and reports
- create staffing budgets for variable part-time staff
- facilitate cross-team collaboration across engagement, interpretation, entertainment, and education
- collaborate with corporate and nonprofit partners to enhance program impact
- manage regular reporting on programs, finances, and impacts
- provide additional support as assigned, safeguard confidential information
- interact with managers and external organizations as needed
