Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • bachelor's degree in a life science area strongly preferred
  • minimum of one year animal care experience preferably with birds
  • comfortability conducting informal presentations and feeds to the public
  • ability to work indoors and outdoors under all environmental conditions
  • ability to ascend and descend ladders and uneven terrain
  • exceptional visual acuity
  • communication skills with two-way radios
  • knowledge of safety policies and procedures
  • willingness to follow bloodborne pathogens and universal protection precautions
  • able to learn and implement species quarantine procedures
  • professional attitude and appearance
  • prior experience with animal care
  • ability to perform manual labor and husbandry tasks
  • ability to work weekends, holidays, overtime and varied shifts

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a life science area is highly desired
  • one year of animal care experience preferably with birds
  • exceptional public speaking skills
  • professional attitude and appearance
  • ability to work in varied environmental conditions
  • experience with positive reinforcement and operant conditioning is a plus
  • team-oriented and temperamentally suited to work with public and animals

Job Duties

  • Conduct informal presentations and chats with the public
  • lead behind-the-scenes tours with guests
  • perform daily husbandry tasks for various bird species
  • provide outstanding customer service and educational experiences
  • maintain health and well-being of the bird collections
  • follow all safety policies and procedures
  • assist in species quarantine procedures as directed
