Job Requirements

  • Must have high school diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid Advanced EMD or EMD-Q certification or obtain within six months of employment
  • Must obtain IAMTCS certification within eighteen months of employment
  • Must have current CPR certification
  • Recommended three years of experience as a paramedic or dispatcher or one year of experience in a high call volume EMD dispatch center
  • Must have good verbal communication skills
  • Must have good written communication skills
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Must be able to function effectively in stressful situations
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in medical terms, conditions and procedures

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Receive and efficiently process incoming and outgoing emergency and non-emergency pre-hospital service requests
  • Utilize system status management for appropriate dispatch and coordination of emergency medical resources for air and ground units
  • Provide medical information using protocol driven instructions
  • Assess, evaluate and meet patient care needs through emergency dispatching programs, policies, and procedures
  • Coordinate information and resources with other public safety agencies
  • Maintain clear and effective verbal and written communications on telephone and radio
  • Function effectively in stressful and high-pressure emergency situations
