Job Requirements

  • High school graduate
  • Must obtain Enhanced E-911 certificate within 1-2 months
  • Must obtain APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator 1 certificate within 1-2 months
  • Must obtain Emergency Medical Dispatch/Pre-arrival Instruction Certificate within 1-2 months
  • Must have CPR certification
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to interact with diverse personnel
  • Ability to function independently under stress
  • Computer proficiency
  • Knowledge of hospital and interdepartmental functions

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Enhanced E-911 certificate
  • Ability to obtain and maintain APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator 1 certificate
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Emergency Medical Dispatch/Pre-arrival Instruction Certificate
  • CPR certification
  • Exceptional customer service skills including strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to interact with personnel across all levels
  • Ability to function independently and prioritize workload under stress
  • Computer proficiency
  • Thorough knowledge of hospital and interdepartmental functions
  • Preferred Massachusetts certified EMT-Basic
  • Preferred 1 year emergency medical dispatch experience
  • Preferred APCO PST 1, EMD and State 9-11 certifications

Job Duties

  • Receive E-911 calls and verify caller information
  • Provide Emergency Medical Dispatch instruction promptly
  • Dispatch appropriate emergency ambulances
  • Enter all calls and times into Computer Aided Dispatch program
  • Coordinate first responders such as police and fire departments
  • Dispatch emergency helicopters and coordinate flight plans
  • Establish and verify helicopter landing zones and coordinate patient transfer
  • Communicate patient information to receiving hospitals and physicians
  • Maintain helicopter call records and monitor aircraft location
  • Notify receiving agencies of patient details and arrival times
  • Manage trauma patient notifications and paging of trauma teams
  • Identify and report intra/interdepartmental issues
  • Complete daily, monthly, and ad hoc reporting as assigned
  • Update landing zone computer database
  • Assist with ground ambulance and Life Flight staff coverage
