Job Requirements

  • BART or BLS certification at time of hire
  • Minimum one year of recent experience in emergency department, psychiatric, or critical care setting
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
  • Strong interpersonal communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities
  • Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and quality care
  • De-escalation and behavioral management training with intention to obtain CPI certification within six months
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs
  • Must be able to work at UCSD East Campus, Hillcrest, and La Jolla hospitals
  • Employment subject to criminal background check and pre-employment physical

Job Qualifications

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six months of hire date
  • Minimum one year of recent experience in an emergency department, psychiatric, or critical care setting
  • Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational, and multitasking skills
  • Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and quality care
  • De-escalation and behavioral management training with a commitment to get CPI within six months of the hire date
  • Demonstrates computer knowledge and skills
  • California EMT, MHW and/or CNA certification (preferred)
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) (preferred)

Job Duties

  • Collect and document patient vital signs and observational data accurately and promptly
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), ensuring comfort and dignity
  • Collect, label, and transport laboratory specimens in accordance with established protocols
  • Prepare and set up for minor procedures
  • assist RNs and physicians during procedures and resuscitation efforts
  • Maintain patient and environmental safety, including serving as a sitter when assigned
  • Support patient mobility, including safe transfers and transport to and from care areas
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain standard and specialized patient care equipment
  • Manage supply logistics, ensuring availability and functionality of medical equipment and supplies
  • Perform clerical and secretarial duties to support patient care coordination, including communication with physicians and other departments
  • Participate in additional responsibilities such as scheduling, supply management, and shared governance committees, as assigned
