Job Requirements

  • One year EMS dispatching experience or hospital transfer center coordination or hospital bed placement coordination
  • Alternatively, two years of Patient Access Services Specialist or similar administrative experience in a complex hospital or outpatient environment
  • Ability to work under high stress and adapt rapidly to changing environments
  • Customer service skills with excellent verbal communication
  • Ability to type 45 wpm
  • Proficient with multitasking on multi-line phones and radio communications
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Job Qualifications

  • Some college education preferred
  • Formal EMS dispatcher training preferred
  • Experience with emergency radio communications
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Experience with relevant database systems

Job Duties

  • Coordinate complex transfers of acutely ill patients to OHSU/DCH from outside hospitals including accurate data collection and EPIC intake
  • Answer and manage OHSU, Trauma, MRH, and MCI radio channels and phone lines
  • Document and disseminate ambulance reports to clinical teams accurately and timely
  • Serve as Regional Hospital contact during mass casualty incidents, managing patient distribution and hospital communications
  • Activate and manage ambulance divert protocols via OCS
  • Answer and triage incoming calls to OHSU/DCH Emergency Department and facilitate page and emergency team activations
  • Dispatch and coordinate Pediatric and Neonatal Doernbecher Ambulance (PANDA) team transport including communication with air and ground vendors and emergency protocol activation
