Job Requirements
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
- two years of relevant experience operating CAD systems and dispatch equipment
- typing proficiency of 40 net words per minute
- ability to complete a detailed pre-employment personal history form
- successful completion of a background investigation including a voice stress analyzer and/or polygraph
- availability to work ten-hour shifts including weekends and holidays
- signing of an Applicant Statement confirming understanding of screening requirements
- availability for oral examination and other selection processes
- compliance with veteran preference documentation if applicable
Job Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
- two years of experience equivalent to an Emergency Services Dispatcher II with the City of Fresno
- proficiency with multi-channel Computer-Assisted Dispatch (CAD) system
- ability to type at a net rate of 40 words per minute
- certification to perform solo radio duty within 12 months
- strong communication and interpersonal skills
- ability to remain calm and efficient during emergencies
- knowledge of police, fire, and medical dispatch procedures
Job Duties
- Answer emergency calls for police, fire, and emergency medical services
- elicit necessary information about incidents and enter data into the CAD system
- determine appropriate priority and response based on policies and codes
- dispatch public safety personnel and equipment using CAD and radio systems
- receive and transmit coded messages to and from field units
- advise callers on police and fire procedures in non-emergency situations
- maintain computer records of communications traffic
- input queries into CAD system to access databases like CLETS and NCIC
- perform other duties as assigned
