Job Requirements
- High School diploma or GED certificate
- No previous work experience required
- Ability to obtain Emergency Dispatcher or Communications Certificate within one year of employment
- Willingness to work 24/7 shift schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to perform light physical effort and lift up to 10 pounds
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and data entry
- Ability to follow safety protocols and procedures
Job Qualifications

- Prior dispatch experience preferred
- Ability to obtain Emergency Dispatcher/Communications Certificate or academy certification within one year
- Strong communication and multitasking skills
- Ability to operate Computer Aided Dispatch System and other law enforcement databases
- Professional demeanor and ability to handle stressful situations calmly
Job Duties
- Answering calls for service including 911 emergencies and non-emergency assistance
- Radio dispatching law enforcement, fire services, and emergency medical services agencies primarily on NMSU campus
- Coordination of emergency resources and services during regional critical incidents
- Sensitive data entry for the regional Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD), the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and various other databases
- Monitoring of campus wide video cameras and various campus wide alarm systems including security, fire, and panic/duress alarms
- Responsible for emergency notification system messaging ensuring CLERY compliance
- Coordinate messages for department personnel from community members
- Serve as the primary receptionist and face of the police department for community members with questions or needing public safety assistance
