Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED certificate
  • No previous work experience required
  • Ability to obtain Emergency Dispatcher or Communications Certificate within one year of employment
  • Willingness to work 24/7 shift schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to perform light physical effort and lift up to 10 pounds
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems and data entry
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED certificate
  • Prior dispatch experience preferred
  • Ability to obtain Emergency Dispatcher/Communications Certificate or academy certification within one year
  • Strong communication and multitasking skills
  • Ability to operate Computer Aided Dispatch System and other law enforcement databases
  • Professional demeanor and ability to handle stressful situations calmly

Job Duties

  • Answering calls for service including 911 emergencies and non-emergency assistance
  • Radio dispatching law enforcement, fire services, and emergency medical services agencies primarily on NMSU campus
  • Coordination of emergency resources and services during regional critical incidents
  • Sensitive data entry for the regional Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD), the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and various other databases
  • Monitoring of campus wide video cameras and various campus wide alarm systems including security, fire, and panic/duress alarms
  • Responsible for emergency notification system messaging ensuring CLERY compliance
  • Coordinate messages for department personnel from community members
  • Serve as the primary receptionist and face of the police department for community members with questions or needing public safety assistance
