Job Requirements

  • Complete a criminal history disclosure form approved by the appointing authority
  • Agree to release all records involving criminal history to the appointing authority
  • Supply a fingerprint sample as prescribed by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have relevant clerical or customer service experience
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with clients
  • Must be able to operate general office equipment and use computer systems
  • Must be willing to work on-site in Columbia, TN

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience equivalent to two years of full-time clerical or customer service work
  • Or one year of experience as an Eligibility Clerk with the State of Tennessee
  • Knowledge of clerical procedures and customer service principles
  • Ability to perform active listening, judgment, and decision making
  • Proficient in time management and writing
  • Strong deductive and inductive reasoning abilities
  • Effective written comprehension
  • Skilled in operating general office equipment, computers, and multifunction printers

Job Duties

  • Explain rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and benefits determinations to clients or other interested parties
  • Compare client information against state databases to ensure accuracy
  • Interview applicants to determine needed social services and verify information
  • Obtain and verify information to assist Eligibility Counselors in eligibility determination
  • Enter applications, verifications, simplified reporting forms, and other documents into databases
  • Review case documentation to understand case circumstances and identify potential benefits
  • Research and resolve general client concerns regarding agency programs, policies, and procedures
  • Document information obtained during interviews and contacts into eligibility determination systems
  • Schedule and reschedule appointments for clients and manage electronic case files
