Job Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of the education requirement
- One year of food service experience in general food preparation, proper food handling, food safety, and sanitation
- Proficiency in cashiering and working with Microsoft Office
- Must be proficient in basic math such as addition, subtraction, and multiplication
- Must attend the four-hour ASD Serving It Safe food safety course and pass the associated exam within 21 calendar days from date of hire
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, speak, and hear frequently
- Ability to occasionally lift items less than 40 pounds
- Ability to understand vague and implicit instructions
- Ability to handle conflict and make decisions under pressure
- Ability to work effectively with diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic environment
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of food service experience in general food preparation, food handling, food safety, and sanitation
- Proficiency in cashiering and working with Microsoft Office
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, and multiplication
- Completion of ASD Serving It Safe food safety course within 21 days of hire
- Preferred one year of supervisory experience including planning and directing employees
- Preferred experience providing training in kitchen staff responsibilities
- Preferred knowledge of pre-plate and centralized food preparation and delivery
- Preferred previous experience as food service manager
- Preferred experience with food service point of sale and inventory management systems
Job Duties
- Manage food and supply inventories, ordering, production records, cash handling procedures, bank deposits, and timely submission of paperwork
- Ensure meals are prepared on schedule for an estimated number of students
- Monitor and record kitchen equipment temperatures and proper food heating and cooling times according to HACCP requirements
- Resolve complaints timely and communicate concerns to supervisor
- Train, supervise, and evaluate school cafeteria assistants
- Coordinate employee timecards and leave requests with supervisor
- Ensure timely preparation of all meal programs and organize and assign work to kitchen staff
- Maintain regulations on sanitation and food safety practices
- Ensure compliance with National School Lunch Program and maintain accurate records
- Submit maintenance requests and report major maintenance problems
- Adhere to Student Nutrition Department and Anchorage School District policies and procedures
- Know and understand USDA and State guidelines for meal pattern and service requirements
- Plan, organize, and make decisions independently in a fast-paced environment
- Assign and direct student aides and substitute employees as needed
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse students, staff, and the public
