Job Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of education
  • One year of food service experience in food preparation, handling, safety, and sanitation
  • Proficiency in cashiering and Microsoft Office
  • Must be proficient in basic math
  • Must attend ASD Serving It Safe food safety course and pass exam within 21 days of hire
  • Preferred one year of supervisory experience
  • Evidence of training staff in kitchen duties
  • Knowledge of pre-plate and centralized food prep and delivery
  • Previous food service manager experience
  • Experience with point of sale and inventory systems

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent or two years related work experience in lieu of education
  • One year food service experience in general food preparation, proper handling, food safety and sanitation
  • Proficient in cashiering and working with Microsoft Office
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction and multiplication
  • Completion of ASD Serving It Safe food safety course within 21 calendar days of hire
  • Preferred one year supervisory experience including planning and directing daily work schedules
  • Experience in staff training for kitchen responsibilities
  • Knowledge of pre-plate and centralized food preparation and delivery
  • Previous experience as food service manager
  • Experience with point of sale and inventory management systems

Job Duties

  • Manage all food and supply inventories, ordering, production records, cash handling procedures, bank deposits and timely submission of required paperwork
  • Ensure meals are prepared on schedule for estimated student numbers
  • Monitor and record kitchen equipment temperatures, proper food heating and cooling times according to HACCP requirements
  • Resolve complaints timely and communicate concerns to supervisor
  • Train, supervise and evaluate school cafeteria assistants
  • Coordinate employee timecards and leave requests with supervisor
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation and food safety regulations and USDA guidelines
  • Maintain NSLP compliance for free and reduced meals and keep accurate records
  • Submit maintenance requests and report major problems
  • Adhere to Student Nutrition Department and Anchorage School District policies
  • Effectively plan and organize work in a fast-paced environment
  • Assign and direct student aides and substitutes as needed
  • Establish positive working relationships with students, staff and the public
