Job Requirements
- Masters degree or higher in relevant field such as ecology, environmental or ecological toxicology, ecophysiology, biology, environmental sciences, ecosystem planning and land/resource management
- Three to five years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to approach complex challenges with objectivity and creativity
- Ability to listen and show respect for diverse opinions, build relationships and productively facilitate discussions
- Ability to translate technical subjects for community communications and policy development
- Extensive field experience in community ecology and ecosystem assessment
- Professional experience with progressively increasing responsibility in leadership and program management
- Commitment to working with diverse interests and stakeholders from public and broader communities
Job Qualifications
- Masters degree or higher in ecology, environmental toxicology, epidemiology, natural resource management or related field
- Three to five years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to approach complex challenges with objectivity and creativity
- Strong communication skills to translate technical information for public understanding
- Experience in community ecology and ecosystem assessment
- Professional experience in leadership and program management
- Commitment to working with diverse stakeholders
- Preferred qualifications include experience developing field-based research, regional or national policy work, cross-cultural communication, data analysis, managing multidisciplinary research projects, science communication, and a Ph.D. in a related discipline
- Six or more years of field-related experience in ecosystem management disciplines
Job Duties
- Administer the city’s ecosystem-based Integrated Pest Management (IPM) policy and coordinate inter-departmental teams
- Manage the citywide IPM implementation process including risk assessments and updating pesticide lists
- Facilitate ongoing learning opportunities for city staff on IPM and pest management strategies
- Oversee the city’s annual ecosystem-based mosquito control program and manage related budgets and contracts
- Develop and participate in cross-jurisdictional collaborations to evaluate mosquito treatment strategies
- Participate in cross-departmental teams to integrate nature-based solutions and support applied research
- Develop and support regional and state-level policy initiatives related to IPM and nature-based solutions
- Coordinate community engagement, outreach, and partnerships with external groups
- Serve as the point of contact for residents regarding IPM and mosquito control programs
- Monitor relevant regional, state, and federal regulations and provide updates to the community
- Utilize the city’s racial equity guidelines to ensure broad and inclusive engagement internally and externally
