Food Access LA, established in 1996 and formerly known as SEE-LA, is a prominent nonprofit organization situated in Southern California dedicated to bridging the gap between communities and healthy food. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum three years of relevant professional experience
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms
  • ability to work Fridays from 12:30 PM to 9 PM with a 30-minute unpaid break
  • availability for Tuesday team meetings
  • ability to handle cash transactions
  • strong organizational and communication skills
  • ability to work independently
  • preferred bilingual in English and Spanish
  • knowledge of market regulations and compliance
  • experience in community engagement
  • ability to manage multiple priorities
  • willingness to work in varying indoor and outdoor weather conditions

Job Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience such as retail, customer service, non-profit programming, event planning, or community organizing
  • working knowledge of basic business and food retail operations
  • experience working with small-business owners or owning a small business
  • ability to execute communications and community outreach strategies
  • capability to manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines
  • ability to work independently with strong organization and detail orientation
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, social media apps and other technology platforms
  • comfortable handling cash
  • must be able to work Tuesdays and Fridays
  • ability to speak, read, and write in English and Spanish strongly preferred
  • experience with Certified Farmers' Markets
  • experience working with underserved, low-income communities
  • knowledge of compliance standards related to the Department of Agriculture, Department of Public Health, and other agencies
  • community-centered work experience in and around Echo Park

Job Duties

  • Recruit and retain farmer/vendors
  • enforce Food Access LA and other local, regional, state, and federal regulations
  • communicate market policies and activities to vendors
  • work with onsite security to resolve emergencies and conflicts
  • oversee vendor stall placements
  • manage physical setup and takedown of market
  • maintain market grounds
  • distribute market correspondence
  • manage supply inventory and storage space
  • operate information booth and sell merchandise periodically
  • ensure market cleanliness after close
  • process vendor payments and required paperwork
  • update social media with market news and promotions
  • support special events like food demos and book signings
  • maintain weekly accounting and payment reconciliation
  • coordinate with senior management for permits and compliance
  • develop and distribute promotional materials
  • promote market within the community and at events
  • organize and attend vendor and community visits
  • participate in meetings and collaborative initiatives
  • assist with fundraising and grant acquisitions
