Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting or public contact work
  • Ability to pass numerically based work sample test
  • Valid driver license
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
  • Residence within thirty miles of headquarters in Davie, Florida
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and on-call duties
  • Prohibition on use of artificial intelligence tools for qualifying questions and interviews

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting or other public contact work
  • Ability to operate communication equipment including radios, telephones and computers
  • Knowledge of fire suppression and emergency response protocols
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate multiple personnel and agencies
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain calm under pressure
  • Valid driver license

Job Duties

  • Dispatch crews to wildfires, smoke complaints and other incidents
  • Operate computer, radio and telephone to transmit and receive information for fire suppression
  • Approve or deny issuance of burn authorizations throughout assigned counties
  • Maintain electronic and paper records relating to communication center operations
  • Receive and handle incoming telephone calls and relay information to appropriate personnel
  • Gather and relay daily fire weather forecasts to crews and supervisory staff
  • Perform assigned training and maintain operational readiness for duty officer position
