Job Requirements

  • Meets the "Veteran" requirement as defined in Ohio Revised Code 5901.07 i.e., an honorably discharged veteran of the U. S. Military Service
  • High school graduate or equivalent or GED
  • Valid driver's license with a minimum three-year driving history
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pound containers

Job Qualifications

  • Honorably discharged veteran as defined by Ohio Revised Code 5901.07
  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED)
  • Valid driver's license with a minimum three-year driving history
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, and related state computer system software
  • Strong organizational and oral communication skills
  • Experience with office practices and procedures related to support programs
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare correspondence professionally

Job Duties

  • Inspect the Lucas County Veterans Service Commission van at the beginning of each shift for functionality and safety indicators
  • Notify Executive Director or Office Management immediately of any accidents or vehicle damage
  • Operate the Commission van safely and follow county vehicle use policy
  • Keep the county vehicle fueled and clean, and complete Driver Trip Sheets accurately
  • Use computer and telephone to set up routes to Veteran Medical Facilities and schedule food box deliveries
  • Pick up food consignments at the Food Bank and deliver them to veterans’ residences
  • Transport veterans to and from Veteran Medical Facilities in Michigan and Ohio
  • Perform data entry into various software applications
  • Format and type correspondence and mailing labels for Veteran Service Officers and Investigators
  • Answer phones, direct calls, and take messages for staff members
  • File client case folders for Veteran Service Officers and Investigators
  • Operate office machinery including fax machines, copiers, computers, printers, and scanners
  • Greet and check in clients and guests at the Reception Window
  • Distribute TARTA Bus Tokens to qualified veterans
  • Advise the Office Supervisor on office supply levels
  • Ensure confidentiality of client and family information at all times
  • Perform other duties as requested by Executive Director or Office Management
