Job Requirements
- Must have graduation from high school or equivalent
- must have eight years of piloting experience with multi-engine aircraft above 12,500 pounds
- must hold a valid Texas Driver License
- must possess FAA certifications including Certified Flight Instructor, Commercial Pilot or Instrument Pilot certificate
- must maintain current FAA second-class medical certificate
- must pass semi-annual Physical Readiness Testing
- must have knowledge of TXDPS and applicable regulations
- must demonstrate leadership and decision-making skills
- must be proficient with computer software including Microsoft Office
- must be able to handle confidential information
- must be available for after-hour, weekend, and frequent overnight travel
- must be able to perform physical duties including lifting 50 pounds
- must have strong communication and organizational skills
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent
- ninety semester hours from an accredited college or university or an Associate degree
- eight years of experience piloting multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft with gross weight above 12,500 pounds and 2000 hours of turbine time
- possession of valid Texas Driver License
- possession of FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI/MEI), Commercial Pilot Certificate or Instrument Pilot Certificate
- current FAA second-class medical certificate
- working knowledge of TXDPS, state and federal regulations, policies and procedures
- ability to perform under emergency conditions with leadership skills
- proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- ability to handle confidential information responsibly
- strong presentation, research, and analytical reasoning skills
Job Duties
- Operate DPS aircraft in a safe and professional manner
- evaluate general safety of aircraft and ensure maintenance and repairs
- obtain weather information and prepare flight plans
- perform pre-flight inspections
- pilot aircraft for search and rescue operations
- participate in surveillance and undercover activities
- transport prisoners, protected witnesses, and officials
- provide aerial reconnaissance during emergencies
- transport medical patients and supplies
- inspect motorcade routes for security
- monitor traffic flow and road conditions from the air
- assist in traffic and criminal investigations
- maintain and submit required records
- participate in hiring and interview procedures
- attend work regularly and observe approved work hours
- perform other duties as assigned
