Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three months experience in clerical or customer service preferred
  • Specific certification or licensing based on state requirements
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills required
  • Ability to speak, read, write (legibly and accurately), and understand English required
  • Strong customer service skills required
  • Strong organizational skills required
  • Ability to read, follow, and interpret regulations, instructions and manuals required
  • Ability to understand verbal instruction required
  • Ability to read numbers on screening equipment and perform basic mathematical calculations required
  • Effective communication skills required
  • Must be able to work day and evening hours, weekends, holidays and extended shifts on a frequent basis
  • Attendance and punctuality required
  • Ability to utilize all required and appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to tug, lift and pull up to thirty-five pounds
  • Ability to bend, stoop or kneel
  • Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens
  • Ability to view video display terminal less than 18 inches away for up to four hours at a time
  • Ability to work in environments with temperatures of -40C or colder for extended periods
  • Occasional exposure to and handling of dry ice
  • Ability to perform precise tasks requiring repetitive small motor skills
  • Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication

Job Duties

  • Ensure total operation is compliant with state and federal regulations
  • Maintain high level of customer service and positive donor experience
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderly work area
  • Maintain donor center equipment per procedures
  • Monitor donor conditions for comfort and safety
  • Maintain donor confidentiality
  • Keep accurate records per standard operating procedures
  • Troubleshoot machine alarms and perform routine quality controls
  • Clean blood or plasma spills and dispose of biohazardous waste properly
  • Perform other assigned job-related tasks
  • Ensure donor meets eligibility criteria
  • Perform donor vitals evaluation
  • Perform finger stick for microhematocrit and total protein tests
  • Register applicant donors
  • Set up equipment and supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis
  • Disconnect donor after procedure
  • Maintain proper ratio for donor safety and product quality
  • Operate automated plasmapheresis machines and respond to alarms/adverse events
  • Collect and store plasma product and samples sterilely
  • Handle tested and untested products appropriately
  • Organize samples and products in storage freezers
  • Prepare product and samples for shipment according to regulations
  • Monitor freezer and refrigerator temperatures and report issues
