Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Prior management and dock experience
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights and weekends
- Ability to lift 20 pounds
- Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Willingness to work 50 hours per week average
- Knowledge of local metropolitan area
- Proficient in computer skills (AS/400 and MS Office a plus)
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, bachelor degree preferred
- Thorough understanding of the LTL trucking industry including basic paperwork flow
- Prior management, dispatch and dock experience preferably in LTL trucking
- Knowledgeable of the local metropolitan area
- Strong leadership skills including hiring, coaching, counseling, training, mentoring and terminating employees
- Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills
- Team building and interpersonal skills
- Excellent planning and organization skills
- Proficient computer skills (AS/400 and MS Office a plus)
- Strong work ethic and problem solving skills
- Ability to work 50 hours per week on average
- Flexibility to work any shift including nights and weekends in various weather conditions
- Ability to lift approximately 20 pounds
- Ability to comply with company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct
- Ability to work independently or in a team setting
- Ability to work under tight time constraints with multiple priorities
- Ability to respond well to questions and interpret safety and operations documents
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and criminal background check
- Authorized to work in the United States
Job Duties
- Report to Operations Manager / Assistant Terminal Manager and/or Terminal Manager
- Lead, guide and direct dock employees as needed including setting targets, monitoring performance, providing coaching, counseling and development
- Manage an efficient, clean and safe LTL operation including dock planning and scheduling
- Enforce compliance with company policies, safety rules and government regulations
- Participate in hiring and termination processes
- Administer assigned portions of the Terminal Business plan
- Meet all assigned key performance indicators
- Utilize company enhancement tools and processes daily
- Review and revise schedules to increase efficiency and reduce cost
- Coordinate equipment assignment and movement (trailers and tractors) with management and other supervisors
- Communicate effectively with customers via phone, fax or email
- Oversee dock paperwork ensuring accuracy and timely handling
- Maintain regular attendance and perform other duties as assigned
