Job Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a veterinary program and in their clinical year of veterinary studies
  • In good academic standing
  • In good physical shape and able to lift 25kg
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in California coastal weather
  • Currently residing and studying in the United States
  • Ability to commit to a two to four-week externship period

Job Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a veterinary program and in clinical year of veterinary studies
  • Good academic standing
  • Experience or strong interest in aquatic animal medicine and conservation
  • Ability to prepare professional presentations
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills

Job Duties

  • Assist veterinary and animal care staff with clinical cases
  • Participate in daily rounds and diagnostic procedures
  • Observe and assist in surgical procedures
  • Participate in necropsies and clinical pathology
  • Collaborate with husbandry staff and water science technicians
  • Assist the sea otter rehabilitation team
  • Prepare and present a case report or literature review
