Job Description

The district is actively seeking a dedicated professional for the position of Maintenance/Custodial and Bus Driver within its Transportation and Building Operations departments. This role is integral to the smooth functioning and safety of school buildings and transportation services. The position falls under the category of general maintenance, custodial duties, and safe operation of school buses, and is supervised directly by the Director of Facilities. This full-time role is essential in maintaining an environment conducive to education by ensuring that school facilities remain orderly, clean, safe, and fully operational for students, staff, and visitors.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • experience in building maintenance and repair
  • valid Texas commercial driver’s license Class B
  • valid bus driver certification
  • ability to follow safety protocols
  • ability to communicate effectively
  • ability to complete bus driver safety training
  • ability to pass alcohol and drug test

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • successful experience in building maintenance and repair
  • valid Texas commercial driver’s license Class B
  • valid bus driver certification
  • knowledge of carpentry plumbing and electrical trades
  • knowledge of building codes and safety regulations
  • ability to carry out oral and written instructions
  • ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues
  • effective communication skills
  • knowledge of student discipline procedures
  • ability to manage student behavior
  • ability to operate a bus safely
  • completion of bus driver safety training

Job Duties

  • perform tasks to keep school buildings orderly neat and clean such as clearing disposing of trash cleaning bathrooms and floors washing windows and related tasks
  • perform tasks to maintain buildings in safe and operable condition such as making minor repairs to property as requested clearing snow and ice and related tasks
  • inspect equipment and facilities and recommend repair or replacement action to supervisor
  • regulate heat ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical use of resources
  • check all building entrances and exits to ensure proper working order
  • open and close buildings ensuring all doors and windows are securely locked
  • maintain motors and mechanical equipment and ensure scheduled servicing
  • obtain equipment tools and materials required for assigned work
  • maintain inventory of supplies materials equipment and fuel and place orders as needed
  • prepare and maintain records to document work and repairs
  • follow assigned bus route and adhere to established bus schedules
  • drive bus to and from extracurricular activities
  • check bus for mechanical defects before and after operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs
  • report all accidents vehicle damage student injuries and mechanical failures and complete required reports
  • keep assigned bus clean
  • supervise students boarding and leaving bus and crossing streets
  • communicate with teachers daily regarding student behavior
  • maintain discipline and report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator
  • instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations
