Job Requirements
- Must be able to attend and successfully complete on- and off-site training courses as required by the USAF or the company
- Ability to remain calm and stable while handling emergency situations
- Must be physically and mentally able to perform assigned duties
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods
- Must be able to speak clearly and act decisively in emergencies
- Must distinguish basic colors and have adequate hearing (hearing aid permitted)
- Able to work in noisy environments with radios, phones, alarms, and computers
- Must wear company-issued uniforms according to policy
- Must obtain and maintain company selected certification for Emergency Medical, Fire, Police Dispatch duties within required timeframes
- Comply with NFPA 1061 training requirements
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of full-time work experience directly related to fire department communications or emergency dispatch
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Knowledge of general fire department and emergency medical services operations and terminology
- Ability to effectively communicate clear and concise information both orally and in writing
- Certified Public Safety Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent through an accredited program
- Certified to Hazardous Material Awareness level
- Department of Defense certification to Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent
Job Duties
- Receive emergency phone calls via the VESTA 911 phone system, gather pertinent information in accordance with checklists
- Comply with National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Public Safety Telecommunications Personnel Professional Qualifications Standard 1061
- Dispatch fire, medical, protective services, and other emergency response vehicles and personnel to various emergencies
- Receive routine phone calls professionally and take appropriate action
- Receive trouble, supervisory, and fire alarms via Monaco D-21 system and determine necessary actions
- Transmit or relay mutual aid requests through other Public Safety Answering Points
- Perform Emergency Medical, Fire, Police Dispatch services with caller instructions until EMS arrival
- Read grid maps and establish emergency control points during responses
- Maintain daily and emergency logs in the ACES-FD database
- Communicate pertinent information to responding crews via radio, public address, and phone systems
- Participate in recurring training to ensure compliance with requirements
- Assist with monitoring and troubleshooting emergency communications equipment
- Perform all other duties as per local policies and procedures
