Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Must have ICS 100 and 200 certifications
- At least 2 years experience in emergency services dispatch
- Valid emergency dispatcher certification from APCO, NENA, state agency or DoD Telecommunicator I/II certification
- Computer proficiency including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email applications
- Ability to prioritize independently
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica
- Successful completion of medical and dental exams required by NSF
- Drug screening and background check clearance
- Federal background check clearance
- Ability to lift and move items according to safety regulations
- Ability to perform physical activities in extreme cold
- Participation in community programs
- Valid US driver’s license
- Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials with US citizenship
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Incident Command System (ICS) 100 and 200 certifications
- Minimum 2 years of emergency services dispatch experience including fire, EMS, or law enforcement
- Valid emergency dispatcher certification from APCO, NENA, or state agency or DoD Telecommunicator I/II certification
- Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email
- Ability to prioritize independently and work unsupervised
- Strong communication and judgment skills
- Compliance with safety, environment, health, and waste policies
Job Duties
- Maintain a safe and clean workplace adhering to safety guidelines and participate in weekly safety meetings
- Monitor, answer, interpret, prioritize, and dispatch emergency responders via various communication systems including 911 and administrative phone systems
- Monitor automatic fire alarm systems and dispatch emergency responders or technicians as appropriate, creating service requests
- Monitor emergency equipment indicators, prioritize information, delegate to appropriate trades, and create emergency facility work orders
- Communicate with and notify emergency service personnel such as firefighters, search and rescue, medical staff, and spill response personnel
- Operate HF/VHF/Satellite telephone and radio equipment, assist technicians with troubleshooting
- Assist with operational aircraft communications, airfield announcements, and distributing aircraft movement reports
- Maintain knowledge of vehicle movements, field parties, and recreation groups according to safe travel policies and initiate Emergency Operations Center procedures
- Perform accurate data entry using Firehouse Software, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and produce timely reports
- Coordinate international communications and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information
- Interact professionally with National Science Foundation, military, and other agency officials
- Provide communication staffing for the Emergency Operations Center during emergency events and drills
- Manage radio communications during fire department, search and rescue, and mass casualty events or drills
- Notify technicians of equipment malfunctions
- Provide communication support to field personnel
- Monitor vehicle travel during winter and win-fly and initiate search and rescue procedures as necessary
- Work varied schedules including day, night, holidays, and events to ensure 24/7 coverage
- Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned by Lead Dispatcher
