Job Requirements

  • Must live within commuting distance of Philadelphia
  • Must have a valid TWIC card
  • Must have organization, problem solving and scheduling skills
  • Must have superior customer service and communication skills
  • Must have excellent analytical skills and ability to communicate directions
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Must have ability to operate radios on correct frequencies
  • Must have a good, clear voice and be fluent and articulate in English
  • Must have thorough working knowledge of the local waterways, channels, and associated terminals, piers, tides and currents
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts

Job Qualifications

  • Maritime experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to operate radios on correct frequencies
  • Clear and articulate in English
  • Knowledge of local waterways, channels, terminals, piers, tides and currents
  • Radio operator's license preferred
  • Ability to learn new software programs quickly

Job Duties

  • Operates electronic communication systems and equipment including two-way radios, telephone systems, fax machines, computers and software programs, and cellular telephones
  • Communicates and interfaces with management, shipping agents, and reporting agencies to gather information and schedules for shipping activity
  • Maintains communications with agents, ships, pilots, terminals and boat crews to complete ship movements and barge operations
  • Organizes and dispatches proper tugs and pilots needed for each job
  • Acts as company representative communicating with the U.S. Coast Guard regarding holds, boarding activities, vessel searches, oil spills, and accidents
  • Oversees services performed by tug and barge crews ensuring efficiency and professionalism
  • Updates and monitors database systems with shipping and pilot activity
  • Organizes and documents activities by completing forms, reports, logs, and records including billing and sales information
  • Maintains communication systems and equipment by following operation instructions, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and arranging repairs
  • Projects a positive image to peers, customers, industry, and community by ensuring cost-efficient, quality service in a safe environment
