Job Description
The City of Belton is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Police Dispatcher to join its dynamic Police Department team. The Police Department plays a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of its residents by providing timely and efficient emergency response and law enforcement services. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- ability to pass an extensive background check
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Telecommunicator Certification required or ability to obtain within 6 months
- ability to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- ability to lift 25 pounds
- ability to operate dispatch and communication equipment
- strong oral and written communication skills
- ability to work in high stress and emergency situations
- punctual and reliable attendance

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Telecommunicator Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations
- knowledge of standard radio broadcasting procedures and rules
- knowledge of CAD and InPursuit systems procedures and practices
- knowledge of geographic features and streets within the service area
- knowledge of department regulations pertaining to dispatch of personnel and emergency equipment
- knowledge of operation of Public Safety receiving and transmitting system used in the City of Belton
- knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
- knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, and equipment
- knowledge of organization and operation of the Police department, city, and outside agencies
- knowledge of principles and procedures of basic record keeping
- ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
- ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
- ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations
- ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions in emergencies
- ability to effectively communicate with and elicit information from upset and irate citizens

Job Duties
- Answer emergency and non-emergency telephone lines at the Police Station
- gather information from callers including nature, severity, location, and status of emergencies
- assess need for response and dispatch services accordingly
- provide pre-arrival medical instructions on medical emergency calls
- assist Police Officers and first responders by relaying information regarding calls for service
- dispatch all ambulances as required and requested
- dispatch police units to all fire and ambulance calls within the city to assist
- enter, maintain, update and research information into TCIC/NCIC and TLETS/NLETS databases
- research and respond to inquiries from other law enforcement agencies and departments
- dispatch Animal Control and Code Enforcement as requested
- assign case numbers to officers over the radio
- answer maintenance service emergencies on weekends and holidays
- answer incoming phone calls, screen calls and route to appropriate person or office
- be prepared to answer all incoming phone calls for the Fire Department upon request
- enter and respond to regional and broadcast messages
- maintain contact with all units on assignment including status and location of police field units
- enter, update, and retrieve information from teletype networks relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, and stolen vehicles
- enter and confirm warrants, pawn tickets, curfew violations, and criminal trespass warnings into appropriate computer systems
- perform record keeping, filing, indexing, and other general clerical work
- maintain a variety of logs relating to public safety and activities
- print information for Officer's reports
- rest and inspect equipment as required
- cross-train to perform other non-sworn duties as assigned
- perform duties in support of other desks within the department
- assist with training new employees
- assist walk-in complaints, inquiries and requests
- perform related duties as assigned
