Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two years experience as a dispatcher
  • ability to work night shift from 8 pm to 4 am
  • strong communication skills
  • ability to manage and supervise a team
  • understanding of DOT compliance regulations
  • ability to use dispatch software such as TMW
  • physical ability to perform job tasks including walking, standing, and sitting
  • valid driver’s license
  • capacity to handle incident investigations
  • ability to perform ride-alongs with drivers
  • adherence to safety policies

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two years experience as a dispatcher
  • college and/or related technical experience preferred
  • background in logistics, transportation, supply chain management preferred
  • one year supervisory experience managing at least five people preferred
  • four years' experience in shipping and warehousing or CDL truck driving experience preferred
  • ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • strong problem-solving abilities

Job Duties

  • Dispatch as needed will put rates in TMW or rate loads/negotiate rates with 3rd party carriers
  • direct the daily driver duties managing where they go, the time it takes and when their day is concluded
  • dispatchers will manage DOT compliance related to driver available hours of service when assigning loads and daily tasks
  • dispatchers are required to interact with internal and external customers as needed
  • participate and initiate discipline to drivers as per company policy
  • review driver documents for accuracy and/or compliance
  • involvement as needed with selecting external carriers to take loads
  • dispatchers will be involved with payroll as needed to ensure drivers are accurately compensated for work performed
  • dispatchers will be responsible for managing the fleet in a financially efficient and safe manner considering service and cost
  • manage the fleet flow to the lease vendor's shops for equipment repair and maintenance
  • coordinate and manage road breakdowns with the vendors
  • follow all safety policies and ensure drivers and fellow employees follow all safety policies and rules
  • complete incident investigation forms fully when a safety related issue or event occurs
  • ride along with drivers periodically
  • perform supervisory duties including training, performance appraisal, coaching, and conflict resolution
