Job Requirements

  • High school diploma preferred or GED accepted
  • Some kitchen experience desirable
  • Basic knife skills required
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Physical ability to bend, reach, push, pull and lift up to 40-50 pounds
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • May work weekends and holidays
  • May work shifts other than hired shift
  • May work extended hours up to 16 hours
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases including HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis B and C
  • Ability to handle hostile or emotionally upset residents

Job Duties

  • Follow the posted work schedule and arrive on time and in appropriate work attire
  • Responsible for the proper washing of china, flatware, glassware, and other kitchen equipment including machine rinse pressure and water temperature
  • Maintain the kitchen and other assigned areas in a sanitary condition
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with other kitchen personnel and residents
  • Familiar with food-handling procedures and regulations
  • Operate kitchen appliances such as garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, and ice machine
  • Assist with food preparation, inventory, maintenance, food deliveries, and stocking shelves
  • Follow all emergency procedures
  • Understand all safety practices and procedures
  • Report on-the-job injuries to the Community Cook and/or Food & Beverage Director before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs
  • Communicate effectively with Food & Beverage Director and other staff
  • Advise Food & Beverage Director of any changes in physical or mental health of a resident immediately
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record, notify Food & Beverage Director if late or unable to work as per personnel policies, and follow work schedule
