Job Requirements

  • High school diploma preferred or GED accepted
  • Some kitchen experience desirable
  • Basic knife skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Physically able to bend, reach, push, pull, lift up to 40-50 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays as assigned
  • Willingness to work shifts other than hired for
  • Ability to work extended hours up to 16 hours per day
  • Must be in good physical and emotional health and free of communicable diseases
  • Background, criminal and drug tests may be required
  • May be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases including HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis B and C
  • Must maintain professional conduct and handle potentially hostile or emotionally upset residents appropriately

Job Duties

  • Follow the posted work schedule and arrive on time in appropriate work attire
  • Properly wash china, flatware, glassware, and kitchen equipment including managing machine rinse pressure and water temperature
  • Maintain kitchen and assigned areas in sanitary condition
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with kitchen personnel and residents
  • Be familiar with food-handling procedures and regulations
  • Operate kitchen appliances such as garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, and ice machine
  • Assist with food preparation, inventory, maintenance, food deliveries, and shelf stocking
  • Follow all emergency procedures
  • Understand and adhere to safety practices and procedures
  • Report on-the-job injuries to the Community Cook or Food & Beverage Director promptly
  • Communicate effectively with Food & Beverage Director and staff
  • Advise Food & Beverage Director of any changes in resident’s physical or mental health immediately
  • Maintain acceptable attendance and notify Food & Beverage Director if late or unable to work
